Roland 'Tripod' Scholten

Born in Den Haag, Holland in 1965, Roland Scholten made his TV debut in 1992 and has been high in the PDC rankings for many years; his inclusion as one of 7 top players in the inaugural Premier League testament to his standing as one of the game's finest.

Roland has a proven track record in major tournaments and has agonisingly missed out on a plethora of titles after reaching the latter stages after producing some brilliant form. Twice a Quarter-finalist in the World Championship, runner-up in the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and Premier League as well as Quarter-finalist in the desert Classic, Scholten could well be forgiven for feeling incredibly hard done-by.

His biggest success to date was taking the 2004 UK Open Championship, and perhaps indicative of the way things have gone for the Dutchman, he has also twice fallen at the Semi-final stage - including running into an inspired Taylor who hit a 9 dart finish in 2005, ending Scholten's bid to retain the title.

Last year's UK Open saw 'Tripod' eliminated by the surprise package of the tournament, eventual runner-up Barrie Bates, though he has a very decent record in this event and was amongst a group of players that were well fancied to upset the favourites and take the title.

Unfortunately for Roland he faced a really tough draw, having been paired with James Wade in Round Four, and the Dutchman was on the wrong end of an 11-5 defeat to end his campaign at the very first hurdle. Having finished bottom of the Premier League shortly before the UK Open, that defeat capped a miserable start to 2007 for 'The Tripod', though it would be a mistake to write this man off and he has plenty of time to rediscover his form ahead of 2008's Blue Square UK Open.
